In certain circumstances Social Services may believe it is appropriate to give parents a chance to improve the care children are being given, before they apply to the Court for an Order.
In such cases the Local Authority will send the parents a letter asking them to come to what is called a “Pre‑Proceedings Meeting” to talk about the situation. The parents and/or any carers of the child will be invited to this meeting, as will other professionals involved with the child, such as health visitors, school teachers, social workers. At the meeting everyone discusses how the parents can make changes to improve and safeguard the child.
If you receive a pre-proceedings letter you must contact MSB immediately.
Legal aid is available to represent you.
