Opposing Placement Application
Emma Squires represented the interests of the child, through their Guardian, in Care Proceedings in which the Local Authority’s final care plan proposed adoption. The Guardian disagreed and supported a plan of rehabilitation of the child to the care of the mother.  The matter was fully contested. At the conclusion of the evidence, the Local Authority accepted that the threshold for the making of a Placement Order was not made out and amended its care plan to one of rehabilitation of the child to the care of the mother under a Care Order.

Care Proceedings with issues of Jurisdiction
Emma Squires represented the interests of the child, through their Guardian, in care proceedings.  The child had been removed from her carer due to concerns around Non-Accidental injury. The Police also became involved due to concerns that the child was a potential victim of child trafficking. Investigations were completed, which concluded that the child had not been trafficked into this country but that she was a Spanish National.

Non-Accidental Injuries
Emma Squires represented the interests of the child, through their Guardian, in proceedings brought by the Local Authority as a result of suspected non accidental injuries, caused by a shake.  Whilst investigations and assessments were being undertaken, the Guardian supported the child’s placement with a family member, with extensive contact to the parents supervised by the family member.  Following a hearing in which the Court determined that the perpetrator of the injuries was the father, the child returned to the sole care of the mother.
